Fairies are not always bright shiny things. Even the Seelie can have their darkside. I love that Debbie Herbert kept her fairies a bit sinister. They are tricky and conniving and look down on anything outside of the Fae. This includes the changeling, Kheelan, and the human girl, Skye.Kheelan was amazing. He was just the right amount of dark and brooding with a bit of wistfullness about him when it came to his human family. He's instantly enthralled with Skye the first time he sees her and isn't surprised to find out that she's something a little special.Skye on the other hand, wasn't quite as strong a character for me. She was very well-rounded and I loved her reactions to finding out about her true past, and she had a bit of a goofy, humorous side to her personality that Kheelan was definitely missing. They made a great combo and are a pretty good example of opposites attract and all.The fairy realm was still one of wonder and enchantment - but it was a world at war. The Seelie were looking for a savior and the Unseelie were looking to stop a savior. There's a good dose of excitment and battle of sorts in the pages. My only complaint was the ending. It was, in theory, a very satisfying conclusions. But it lost some of the gritty edge that I had really enjoyed throughout the story and got just a tad bit sticky sweet in comparison.*This book was received in exchange for an honest review*Good Changeling By Debbie Herbert is Kindle Alternate Cover Edition B016OWYMN8As a changeling and a witch work together to restore order in Fairy, they discover that love, like magic, casts its own spell of enchantment.. 2017 RITA Finalist for Paranormal Romance in the national contest sponsored by the Romance Writers of America Debbie Herbert, a USA Today bestselling writer, pens romantic suspense and paranormal romance novels reflecting her belief that love, like magic, casts its own spell of enchantment She s always been fascinated by magic, romance and Gothic stories Married and living in Alabama, she roots for the Crimson Tide football team When not working on her upcoming books, Debbie enjoys recumbent bicycling and jet skiing with her husband A past Maggie finalist in both Young Adult Paranormal Romance, and a finalist for the Rosemary Award, YARWA, she s a member of the Georgia Romance Writers of America Debbie has a degree in English Berry College, GA and a master s in Library Studies University of Alabama.. The best Book Changeling The Changeling is my first Debbie Herbert book! She’s a delightful author who was gracious enough to interview me, so I couldn’t wait to read her work. The story of Skye the young witch starts quickly. While she is at work at a metaphysical store called the Green Fairy, she stumbles onto a mystery in the back rooms. Someone is drowning pixies in an iron pot. Kheelan is a young changeling who serves the fey and has been sent on a mission to find this pixie killer. Of course they are a destined match. It’s a paranormal romance, a crime drama, and a coming of age/emerging adult tale as boy and girl discover each other and also learn what sets them apart from their peers. This is a well-developed story with a charming ending. My only pause was my own lack of familiarity with Celtic fairy lore, standard witchcraft and the various fey races. A glossary would have cleared this up for me.
