It Might Be Sunlight am Book This story is so moving, and effective, that I read it aloud to the other adults that I lived with when I encountered it. It was the only story in the collection of stories that stood out as one that elicited not just wonder, but compasion, as well as loss, and understanding.I am currently seeking permission to read at least an excerpt of this story on my radio show, as an example of a great modern short story.The story examines, among other themes, how vulnerabilities, and / or needs, allow human beings to be tempted to accept dubious stories. There is a delicious tension that develops while watching one of the characters attempt to resist this temptation. No spoilers here, but its not every science fiction story that has as its central action, the resistance of temptation. The story could also be described as being about the human need to believe in nearly impossible, or even completely impossible things.But unlike a lot of science fiction, its not the ideas that make this story work, its the very human character and the very human quandries that they face. The story may be fantastical, but the main character is worthy of contemplating, and caring for..
