A viral Ebook Become What You Receive: saint benedict's table, told and retold Well I have never written a review of a book before but there is a always time for first things! Much thanks to Jamie Howison for his poetric, lyrical style of writing which I find enjoyable. Of course, the title is referring to the words of St. Augustine which form the all are welcome, open Eucharist liturgy, "Behold what you are, become what you receive." The central practice in our church which forms, re-forms, transforms and makes us into a people blessed, transformed, redeemed and sent out to be "little-Christs" to our neighbors as we leave the church to the words, "Sing your way home." As Bramwell Ryan says, "in context [those 4 words] call forth restlessness, scattering, community, celebration, confidence and belonging (61). But the best thing for sure, is all the personal reflections from contributors who in the past or presently attend saint benedict's table. What a great legacy to write about a church which has lasted, grown steadily and is vibrantly alive for 10 years when most do not last past the first year. With God's grace and God's glory whose power working within us (sbt) can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine, saint bendedict's table will thrive for the next 100 years or more! I may be a bit biased as to why I like the book as I am one of the almost 40 contributors, but it gives it a taste of how the church is liturgical and believes in liturgy (the work of the people). All in all, is a great story, being told and retold at SBT and do come visit the church or visit us online (www.stbenedictstable.ca) if you do not reside in Winnipeg.
